MARTA STARES

Bold, vibrant landscapes

Marta Stares is an artist and educator interested in painting the outdoors, especially the Northern Ontario landscape. The inspiration for her work comes from extended backcountry canoe and hiking trips in wilderness parks. During these remote excursions she finds a deep sense of belonging to water and land. Being in wilderness, especially the forest, has a profound effect on the psyche and is directly tied to wellbeing. Marta works primarily in oils and uses bold brushstrokes and vibrant colours in her work. Her paintings have been exhibited throughout the Toronto area including Gallery 1313, Orillia Museum of Art & History, and Ontario Legislative Assembly. Marta was the inaugural Artist in Residence at Lake Superior Provincial Park.
